Handbook on Securing Cyber-Physical Critical Infrastructure: Foundations and Challenges
نویسنده
چکیده
Das, Kant and Zhang have done a brilliant job editing Securing Cyber-Physical Critical Infrastructure, bringing together a who’s who list of researchers and practitioners. Das is a University distinguished Scholar Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Texas Arlington with more than 500 published papers, three books and the editorship at Elsevier’s Pervasive and Mobile Computing journal. Kant is a research professor at the Center for Secure Information Systems at George Mason University, Fairfax, VA. Kant comes equipped with many years of academic experience and industry exposure at Bell Labs, Telcordia and Intel, as well as government positions including at the National Science Foundation (NSF). Finally, Zhang, the third book’s editor, was an assistant professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington from 20062008 and is currently researching databases and information security/privacy. Zhang received the prestigious NSF CAREER award in 2008.

Visualizing Cascading Failures in Critical Cyber Infrastructures
This paper explores the relationship between physical and cyber infrastructures, focusing on how threats and disruptions in physical infrastructures can cascade into failures in the cyber infrastructure. It also examines the challenges involved in organizing and managing massive amounts of critical infrastructure data that are geographically and logically disparate. To address these challenges,...
متن کاملPerformance, Robustness, and Cyber Security of Critical Infrastructure Systems – A Cyber-Physical Systems Research Theme
Critical infrastructures are complex physical and cyber-based systems that form the lifeline of modern society, and their reliable and secure operation is of paramount importance to national security and economic vitality. The US President’s Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection (CCIP) [1] has identified telecommunications, electric power systems, natural gas and oil, banking and fin...
متن کاملA Middleware Architecture for Securing Ubiquitous Computing Cyber Infrastructures
Ubiquitous computing is revolutionizing the way applications, users, resources, and physical spaces interact. In this paper we address securing cyber infrastructures for ubiquitous computing environments, like smart buildings and campuses. Our emphasis here is to construct a middleware-based critical cyber infrastructure (CCI) that encompasses heterogeneous components and binds networks, proces...
متن کاملChapter 12 ANALYZING CYBER-PHYSICAL ATTACKS ON NETWORKED INDUSTRIAL CONTROL SYSTEMS
Considerable research has focused on securing SCADA systems and protocols, but an efficient approach for conducting experiments that measure the impact of attacks on the cyber and physical components of the critical infrastructure is not yet available. This paper attempts to address the issue by presenting an innovative experimental framework that incorporates cyber and physical systems. An emu...
متن کاملCyber-physical Systems Security- Challenges and Research Ideas
Cyber-physical systems (CPS) are at a crossroads. Typical CPSs with multi-loop control consisting of device controllers, plant-level distributed control, and system-wide SCADA components are pushed (see Figure 1 below) by market forces to: Connect many diverse (e.g., control and business) systems leading to an internetworked system of systems spanning wide geographic areas, Use off-the-shel...
